Houston Aeros News Release
HOUSTON, Texas - The American Hockey League announced today that Barry Brust of the Houston Aeros has been named the Rbk X-Pulse/AHL Goaltender of the Month for April. Brust stopped 110 of 116 shots in five appearances, posting a 1.22 goals-against average and .948 save percentage to help Houston secure a berth in the 2008 Calder Cup Playoffs. This is the first time a Houston net-minder has received this monthly award since it began during the 2004-05 season.
Brust began the month with a 25-save shutout on Apr. 2, backstopping the Aeros to a 2-0 win over Lake Erie, then made 29 saves in a 4-1 win over Grand Rapids on Apr. 4. Brust stopped 22 shots in a 2-1 loss to Milwaukee and 19 shots in a 1-0 setback at Quad City before finishing the regular season with 15 saves in a 3-2 victory over Milwaukee on April 12.
Originally a third-round draft choice by the Minnesota Wild in 2002, the 24-year-old native of Swan River, Man., was 24-16-3 in 43 appearances for Houston in 2007-08, ranking sixth in the AHL with a 2.27 goals-against average and seventh with a .919 save percentage along with four shutouts.
Brust and teammate Nolan Schaefer shared the AHL's Harry "Hap" Holmes Award as the Aeros allowed the fewest goals in the league during the regular season. Brust was also named Player of the Week for the period ending March 9.
