Dayton Dragons News Release
Dayton, Ohio - Todd Frazier launched a game-winning home run to left field with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Dayton Dragons to a come-from-behind 5-4 victory over the Fort Wayne Wizards on Tuesday night. The home run was the second of the night by Frazier and his third of the season as the Dragons defeated the Wizards for the second straight night to improve their record to 3-3.
Fort Wayne scored singled runs in each of the first four innings to open a 4-1 lead. Dayton's first run came in the first inning when Brandon Menchaca singled, stole second, went to third on Jake Kahaulelio's ground out, and scored on Frazier's ground ball to second.
Frazier connected on a home run to left field with one out in the bottom of the fourth inning to pull the Dragons to within two runs at 4-2. Then in the seventh, Frazier reached on an error before Brandon Waring drilled a home run to left, his third of the year, to tie the game at 4-4.
In the top of the eighth, Fort Wayne threatened to jump back ahead with two men on base and two outs. Pinch hitter Yefri Carvajal singled to left, but Menchaca fired a perfect strike to the plate to nail Brad Chalk trying to score from second and end the threat.
In the bottom of the ninth, Frazier pounded an 0-2 pitch from Jeremy McBryde high into the Dayton night before it landed well beyond the left field fence to end the game.
Dragons reliever Joseph Krebs (2-0) earned the win with an inning and one-third of scoreless relief. Three Dragons relievers combined to go five and two-thirds innings without allowing a run, led by left-hander Philippe Valiquette, who pitched perfect baseball for three and two-thirds, striking out four.
The Dragons and Wizards meet again Wednesday night at Fifth Third Field in the third game of the series. Jamie Arneson (0-0, 9.00) will start for Dayton against Fort Wayne's Geoff Vandel (0-0, 13.50).
