Chico Outlaws News Release

CHICO, CA - Todd Gelatka, the Golden Baseball League's most dominant closer and the league's reigning Pitcher of the Year will once again be anchoring the Chico Outlaws bullpen - the defending GBL champs announced April 7 that Gelatka has signed a one-year contract for the Outlaws upcoming 2008 season.

The former Milwaukee Brewers farmhand enjoyed the best season of his five year professional career in 2007, making 30 relief appearances for Chico and posting a 2-2 record with a 3.10 earned run average. Gelatka's 18 saves out of the bullpen led all Golden Baseball League relievers and set an Outlaws single-season record, eclipsing the previous mark of 17 held by Mike Gits in the team's inaugural 2005 campaign.

In his first full season out of the bullpen, the 26-year-old Geletka was nearly unhittable through the first six weeks of the season, racking up two victories and a dozen saves in his first 17 relief appearances. He allowed just one earned run in 17 innings during that stretch and earned GBL "Pitcher of the Week" honors June 25-July 1. Todd finished 2007 with three saves in the season's final week while not allowing a run in his last five outings. Gelatka made one post-season appearance for the Outlaws, tossing an inning of scoreless relief in game two of the GBL Championship Series as Chico went on to defeat the Long Beach Armada to capture the league crown. Shortly after, Gelatka was named to the GBL's post-season All-Star and was voted the league's top pitcher by GBL managers and executives.

The Outlaws Monday also added left-handed pitcher Jason Roach to its spring training roster. The 24-year-old Roach posted some impressive numbers during his rookie year in the Kansas City Royals farm system. Jason made 21 relief appearances in 2007 for the Pioneer League's Idaho Falls Chukars, fashioning a 4-1 record and 3.26 ERA while striking out 38 and walking just five in 30 innings of work.

A Sacramento native, Roach signed with the Royals as a free agent out of Albertson (ID) College, where in two seasons as a starter he won 19 of 26 decisions and averaged over a strikeout an inning. In 2006 Jason received an NAIA All-American honorable mention; in 2004, as a freshman at Sacramento City College, he was named to the All-Bay Valley Conference All-Star team and was selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the 40th round of that year's major league baseball amateur draft.
