Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
PHILADELPHIA, PA - Matt D'Agostini had a goal and two assists to lead the Hamilton Bulldogs to a 5-3 win over the Philadelphia Phantoms on Sunday night at the Wachovia Spectrum. The win snaps the Bulldogs' franchise-long losing and winless streaks at 12 games and improves their record to 32-32-3-6 on the season.
Hamilton opened the scoring at 4:36 of the first period when Kyle Chipchura snapped a shot past netminder Jeremy Duchesne for his ninth goal of the season. D'Agostini and Marvin Degon earned assists on the play.
With two more goals in the first period, the Bulldogs took a 3-0 lead. Chipchura earned his second point of the night by setting up rookie Brock Trotter's power-play marker at 12:18 of the frame to give Hamilton a two-goal lead. D'Agostini then took a pass from Degon and buried his 20th tally of the season at the 17:31 mark. D'Agostini has now reached the 20-goal plateau in each of his first-two American Hockey League campaigns.
Martin Houle replaced starting goaltender Duchesne between the pipes for Philadelphia at the start of the second period. Duchesne left the game with 5 saves on 8 shots.
Ryan Potulny got the Phantoms on the scoreboard at 4:02 of the middle stanza with his 17th goal of the season. Denis Gauthier and Jason DeSantis picked up helpers on the 3-1 power-play goal.
The teams exchanged goals just 17 seconds apart in the final minute of the second period. Eric Manlow extended Hamilton's lead to 4-1 at 19:21 of the frame with a power-play marker. Triston Grant responded for Philadelphia with a shorthanded goal at the 19:38 mark.
In the final minute of the third stanza, the teams exchanged goals again. Potulny pulled the Phantoms within a goal at 19:02 of the frame before Duncan Milroy sealed the Bulldogs 5-3 win with an empty-net marker just 37 seconds later.
Yann Danis made 36 saves on 39 shots in the win for Hamilton while earning second star honours. Philadelphia's Houle stopped 16 of the 17 shots he faced in relief of Duchesne.
On special teams, the Bulldogs went 2-for-12 on the power play and 6-for-7 on the penalty kill.
