Flint Generals News Release

FLINT, MI -- Boys & Girls Club of Greater Flint is teaming up with the IHL's Flint Generals to offer opportunities for local kids. On Wednesday, January 23 Generals players will make their way to the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Flint's facility to participate in a non-competitive floor hockey program with Club members. The event takes place from 5 pm to 6 pm.

Boys & Girls Club of Greater Flint members have been participating in organized floor hockey since September, 2007. Under the instruction of Club program associate Aarondre Kemp-Hamm and floor hockey coach Gary Richards, kids have learned ideals of teamwork, sportsmanship and fundamentals of floor hockey. These kids will be rewarded with instruction and participation by Flint Generals players in a non-competitive evening of floor hockey at the Club. "The kids have come a long way since beginning this program. It is a great opportunity to reward them for their hard work with the participation by local sports celebrities," said Kemp-Hamm.

The floor hockey program is part of the Boys & Girls Club's Sports Fitness & Recreation programming. Other initiatives in this area include basketball, instructional baseball, soccer and kickball. The Boys & Girls Club of Greater Flint is a positive and safe place for all children, with special attention for those from disadvantaged circumstances, to attend after school, on Saturdays and during the summer. It costs only $10 per year for a child to become a member (assistance available), while the actual cost of providing service is about $350 per child. The difference is made up through grants, foundations, individual donors and support from wonderful partners such as the Flint Generals. The Boys & Girls Club provides programming in five core areas: Sports, Fitness & Recreation, the Arts, Character & Leadership Development, Education & Career Development, and Health & Life Skills to 1,400 local youngsters.
