ABA welcomes Gomez Palacio Thundercats for 2008
January 12, 2008 - American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release
Indianapolis, IN. The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced that the Gomez Palacio Thundercats will begin play next season in Gomez Palacio, Durango, Mexico. According to Joe Newman, ABA CEO, "We've been working with the principal owner, Alan Zatarain, for quite sometime. He has put together an extraordinary organization that includes WBC World Superflyweight Champion, Christian Mijares, and they are doing everything right."
"We are very grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the ABA," added Mr. Zatarain. "We understand that there will be several ABA teams in Mexico next season along with several in Texas. So there should be some great rivalries above and below the border. We want to get started early and you can be sure we will be very competitive."
"The city of Gomez Palacio has opened its arms to the team and their goal is to fill the 10,000 seat Centenario Arena," stated Newman. "They putting together some very creative television and radio commercials that will capture the hearts of the people in the area. This should be a fun and exciting team and we are thrilled to have them in the ABA."
