
Dakota's Rod Benson Named D-League.com Performer of the Week

NEW YORK, Dec. 11, 2007 - Rod Benson of the Dakota Wizards today was named D-league.com Performer of the Week for games played during the week of Dec. 3. Benson averaged 26.5 points, 21.5 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 2.0 assists while shooting 21-of-27 from the field in two games.
Benson set a D-League single-game record with 28 rebounds and added 28 points in a 115-105 victory over the Sioux Falls Skyforce on Sunday, Dec. 9. His 28 rebounds broke the previous record of 26 set by Rodney Bias of the Huntsville Flight on March 24, 2005. Earlier in the week, Benson scored 28 points and grabbed 15 rebounds as Dakota downed Idaho 115-105 on Dec. 9.
A 6-10 forward in his second season with the Wizards, Benson is averaging 15.0 points and a league-leading 14.5 rebounds. Benson averaged 8.3 points and 6.4 rebounds in 49 D-League games last season, splitting time between the Wizards and the Austin Toros. Benson spent time with the New Jersey Nets in training camp prior to the 2007-08 season.
A member of the 2006-07 Wizards D-League Championship team, Benson was acquired by Dakota on Jan. 10, 2007 and joined the 2007-08 squad as a returning player. Other top performers in the D-League last week included Austin's Darius Washington, who scored the league's first triple-double of the season with 26 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in a 109-105 win over the Tulsa 66ers on Dec. 8; Kyrylo Fesenko, who averaged 21.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.5 blocks in two games for Utah; Fort Wayne's Jeremy Richardson, who averaged 28.0 points and 5.3 rebounds in three games for the Mad Ants; Luke Jackson of Idaho, who scored 30 points and dished out nine assists in his D-League season début and Los Angeles' Sean Banks, who averaged 21.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists in two games.
