Port Huron Icehawks News Release

PORT HURON, Mich. - In the midst of a six-game road trip, the Port Huron Icehawks made several roster moves keyed by a spat of injuries.

The Icehawks placed goaltender Marty Magers on the Injured Reserved list. To fill his spot on the active roster, the team signed netminder Larry Sterling. The team also announced that defenseman Joe Markusen has been activated from the IR and defenseman Andrew Davis has been moved to a non-roster spot.

Magers, who has a 3-3 record for the Icehawks this season, joins forward Neil Clark and right wing Brent Hughes on the injured reserve. In seven games played, Magers has a 3.12 goals against average and has posted a .912 save percentage.

Sterling joined the team prior to its trip to Fort Wayne. He spelled starting netminder Ron Vogel and played the final two periods of the game. He stopped 12 of the 14 shots he faced in 40 minutes of play as the Icehawks rallied for four goals in the third period for a 5-4 triumph.

A native of Lake Orion, Mich., Sterling is a fourth-year pro. He spent last season with the Memphis Riverkings of the Central Hockey League (CHL), where he also made four appearances this season. Sterling had a record setting season last year with the RiverKings. The 24-year-old won a CHL leading and a franchise record 31 games while making 51 appearances. He compiled a 31-12-5 record, a 3.05 GAA and a .896 save percentage. He was also the winning goalie in the 2007 CHL All-Star Game. The former Plymouth Whaler and Compuware Ambassador started his professional career with the Fort Worth (now Texas) Brahmas.

Markusen, who started the season on the injured reserve, made his debut at Fort Wayne last night. He had one shot on goal and registered a plus one in the plus/minus category.

In 145 career games, Markusen has 11 goals and 30 assists. The former Michigan State Spartan joined Port Huron for the playoffs a year ago.
