Cracker-Cats bound to the future

October 12, 2007 - Northern League (NL) Edmonton Capitals

Action today by Directors of the Northern League of Professional Baseball opens an opportunity for the Edmonton Cracker-Cats to re-align their League affiliation.

The Cracker-Cats opened with a mid-west based alliance but it became clear the future is really to the west and a league which seeks a Western Canadian identity.

With only five professional teams remaining in Canada the time is ripe and economic conditions are good for an Alberta-based baseball resurgence.

The Cracker-Cats have already begun our move to the future naming Darren Parker, Chief Operating Officer and Brent Bowers, field manager.

Orlich noted the 'Cats sent two players, Scott Richmond and Brian Munhall to Major League affiliates last year, while the Golden League led independent baseball with players named to Baseball America's list of outstanding prospects.
