Tennessee Smokies News Release

SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. - The Southern League of Professional Baseball Clubs has announced the North Division roster for the 2007 Southern League All-Star Game. Tennessee Smokies outfielders Jorge Cortes and Jake Fox, designated hitter Matt Craig and starting pitcher Mark Holliman will join 19 other minor league players on the North division team in a must-see game on Monday, July 9 at Trustmark Park in Pearl, Miss.

Tennessee leads the Southern League with a .273 team batting average, thanks in large part to Cortes, Craig and Fox. Cortes and Craig have been Top 10 mainstays in league hitting, while Fox has provided the power for the team with 14 home runs, 49 RBIs and a .500 slugging percentage.

Holliman has paced the Smokies pitching staff in 2007 with seven wins and a 2.49 ERA. His efforts have included a perfect record in April and a no-hitter on Thursday, June 21 against the Huntsville Stars, earning him a second Southern League Pitcher of the Week award this season.

Former Smokies players Geoffrey Jones and Josh Kroeger were also named to the North team, but will not be participating due to promotions last week to the Triple-A Iowa Cubs. Jones anchored the Smokies bullpen with six saves and a 0.36 ERA in 23 games. Kroeger led the all Southern League hitters with a .382 batting average.

Players for the Southern League All-Star Game were selected by a vote of League field managers, radio broadcasters, general managers and print media. Players who were on Southern League rosters as of June 11 were eligible for the game.

The starting lineup for the North division team will be released next Monday, July 2.

The Tennessee Smokies will return to Smokies Park on Saturday, June 30 for a four game set against the Mississippi Braves. Tickets can be purchased by calling (865) 286-2300, or by visiting www.smokiesbaseball.com.
