Vermont Lake Monsters News Release

The Washington Nationals today placed outfielder Nook Logan on the 15-day disabled list and added outfielder Kory Casto to their 25-man roster, thus making Casto the 47th former Vermont player to reach the Major Leagues.

Casto, who had been with the Nationals in Spring Training until last Saturday, was scheduled to begin the 2007 season with the Triple-A Columbus Clippers. During the spring, he batted .280 (14-for-50) with seven runs and five RBI in 22 games for the Nationals.

The 26-year-old was taken in the third round of the 2003 draft out of the University of Portland by the Montreal Expos. He began his professional career with the Vermont Expos that summer, hitting .239 (62-for-259) with 26 runs, 14 doubles, four homers and 28 RBI in 71 games.

After hitting .286 with 16 homers and 88 RBI in 124 games for Single-A Savannah in 2004, Casto was named the Nationals Minor League Player of the Year each of the last two seasons. He hit .290 (145-for-500) with 86 runs, 36 doubles, 22 homers and 90 RBI in 135 games for Single-A Potamac in 2005, then .272 (133-for-489) with 84 runs, 24 doubles, 20 homers and 80 RBI in 140 games for Double-A Harrisburg in 2006.

Along with being the 47th Vermont player all-time to reach the Major Leagues, Casto is the 11th player on a Major League roster at the start of the 2007 season. He joins Michael Barrett (Chicago Cubs), Jason Bay (Pittsburgh), Jason Bergmann (Washington), Geoff Blum (San Diego), Milton Bradley (Oakland), Orlando Cabrera (Anaheim), Jamey Carroll (Colorado), Shawn Hill (Washington), Jorge Julio (Florida) and Darrell Rasner (New York Yankees).
