Bees announce amateur additions

Hidalgo, Texas --- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees today announced the additions of amateur left wing Daniel Torres and goaltender Matthew Spezza to the playoff roster.

Torres, 20, played the last three seasons primarily with the Markham Waxers in the Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League. In the 2006-07 season, the 6-foot-3, 230-pounder posted 56 points (16-40-56) and 141 PIM in 40 games. He has also played 18 games in the Ontario Hockey League with London and Oshawa. Torres collected 178 points (61-107-158) and 650 PIM over his junior career. He is the younger brother of Edmonton Oilers forward Raffi Torres.

Spezza, 20, also played for Markham in 2006-07, posting a 2-3-0 regular season record with a 3.15 GAA. The 6-foot-2, 214-pound netminder has also played for teams in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and the Ontario Hockey League. He is the younger brother of Ottawa Senators forward Jason Spezza.

The duo joins the Bees after leading the Waxers to the second round of the OPJHL Playoffs. The Waxers were eliminated in the third overtime of Game 7 in their series against St. Michael's. Torres collected seven points in the postseason (3-4-7), while Spezza made 57 saves in the 3-2 Game 7 loss and 74 saves in a 2-1 victory in Game 1.

The Bees open the playoffs with games at Laredo on March 30 and 31. Games Three and Four will be played at Dodge Arena on April 6 and 7.
