Dear Chiefs Fans:
Having spent my entire career with the Cubs and have been an instructor for the past 8 years I am thrilled to expand my duties as the manager of the Peoria Chiefs!
I was fortunate to be able to visit with many of you and meet members of the Chiefs organization at the last two Cubs Caravans and I look forward to returning on this year's Caravan January 17th. Peoria has always given me and the Cubs great support and our young players will enjoy the facilities and playing in a Major League style facility.
The Midwest League is one of the premier leagues in all of Minor League Baseball and it produces some of the best prospects and teams year in and year out. Hopefully this Chiefs team will be one of the squads that all of baseball will be talking about.
Over the past two seasons since the Cubs have returned to Peoria, you as fans have enjoyed watching some great prospects. Eric Patterson, Sean Gallagher, Ryan Harvey, Ryan Norwood, Ed Campusano, Matt Avery and Mitch Atkins are just a few examples of the spectacular talent within the Cubs organization.
The Cubs Director of Player Development, Oneri Fleita, and his staff are working hard now to put together a great squad for Peoria in 2007 as we look to take the Chiefs back to the playoffs for a second straight season. The Cubs drafted and signed some great talent in 2006 that helped the Boise Hawks qualify for the Northwest League Finals and we expect to have most of those players in Peoria for a playoff run this season.
The Chiefs front office staff has worked hard to put together an exciting promotional schedule for the 2007 season. During spring training in Mesa, AZ, we (me and my staff) will do our part to get the players ready to perform to the best of their abilities for you all summer long.
My wife Margaret and I look forward to spending time in the Peoria community this summer around the best fans in baseball, the Cubs fans. Thanks for the warm welcome each time I have been in Peoria over the past few years and we look forward to seeing you Friday April 13th at the home opener against the Burlington Bees at 6:30PM.
