Orlando Predators News Release

ORLANDO, Fla. (Nov. 3, 2006) - Andrew Williams, a former third round pick of the San Francisco 49ers and a former University of Miami standout, has inked a one-year deal to play for the Orlando Predators on Friday.

Williams, 6-2, 280, was selected in the third round (89th pick overall) of the 2004 NFL draft by the 49ers. He played in three games his rookie season, recording one tackle. In 2004, he spent the first 10 weeks of the year on the inactive list with a broken leg. He played in the final seven games of the season, making three starts at right defensive end, recording 15 total tackles - including a career high four solo stops against New England (1/2/05).

He was waived by the 49ers during training camp in 2005 and re-signed by the Tampa Bay Bucs. He spent the 2005 season on the Bucs practice squad and went to camp with Tampa Bay this past August.

In two seasons at the University of Miami, Williams recorded 68 tackles with eight quarterback sacks, 14 tackles-for-loss, three fumble recoveries, and five forced fumbles. Those totals included four sacks and 10 tackles-for-loss as a senior. Williams was an honorable mention JuCo All-America at Hinds Community College, where he recorded 93 total tackles and 20 quarterback sacks in two seasons.

"Andrew Williams is a veteran defensive end with a lot of athletic ability," Predators Head Coach Jay Gruden said. "Given the new free substitution rules in Arena Football, he will have an opportunity to become a solid player in the AFL and should complement Greg White."

The signings give the Predators 26 players under contract for the 2007 season. The team can carry up to 37 players on their pre-season roster and will hold an open tryout camp on Saturday, Dec. 9 at the Citrus Bowl. Tryout information is available at www.orlandopredators.com.
