New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

Metairie, LA - The New Orleans Zephyrs have signed a two-year player development contract with the New York Mets, ending the Zephyrs affiliation with the Washington Nationals.

"We could not be happier to join forces with the Mets, it was our top choice." said Mike Schline, Zephyrs General Manager. "The Mets are a World Series contender and have a terrific reputation in the baseball."

Per the working agreement, the Mets will provide the players and coaching personnel for the Zephyrs. The 2007 coaching staff will be announced later this fall. The Mets minor league system has finished with a winning record in three of the past four seasons and has been among the top half of all Major League organizations in that span.

"We feel that this is a great opportunity to partner with the Mets," said Don Beaver, New Orleans Zephyrs President and Owner. "The potential to get involved with the National League East Division Champs is very exciting for us, their player development system has been very successful."

The Zephyrs' agreement with the Mets ends a two-year affiliation with the Washington Nationals. The Nationals recently completed a two-year working agreement with the Columbus Clippers of the International League.

The new affiliation for the Zephyrs will be the fourth affiliate in franchise history. The club was affiliated with the Milwaukee Brewers from 1993-1996 (279-293), the Houston Astros from 1997-2004 (567-572) and the Nationals in 2005-2006 (136-147). The New Orleans Zephyrs open their 15th season in New Orleans on Friday, April 13th when they host the Nashville Sounds. Season tickets and mini plans are now on sale. For more information and to purchase tickets call the Zephyrs office at (504) 734-5155.
