Florida Firecats News Release

Estero, FL- The Florida Firecats have been assigned veteran FB/LB Chris Morant the team announced today. The 2004 af2 American Conference 2nd team player is coming off a season spent in the AFL as a player coach with the Kansas City Brigade.

"We're excited to have him back," said Firecats Coach Kevin Bouis. "He brings AFL experience, all-arena experience and it helps us solidify our FB/LB position. In the past we've had 2 good players at that position, now we have 3. It's only going to make us better as a team."

In 2005 he finished 2nd on the team in rushing with 133 yards and 4 scores, but his impact was felt more on the defensive side of the ball tallying 30 tackles, 2 sacks 1 interception and recovering 3 fumbles.

"I learned a lot in A-1, some tricks of the trade to make me even better" said Morant of his time in K.C. "I'm looking forward to sharing some of the things I've learned with the guys back down here and getting us beyond where we finished last season. I'm hungry for even more."

Chris was recently honored by being awarded with the Brigades' "Community Service Award". He has also been nominated for the AFL's Al Lucas Hero Award, for his contributions to the community and to the game of Arena Football.

As an All-American at James Madison, Morant broke the school's career sack record, previously held by Charles Haley, by getting to the opposing Quarterback 22 times. He was named Atlantic Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 1999 and 1st team all-conference in 1999 and 2000. He spent part of the 2002 season with the AFL's NY Dragons.

After playing 5 of their 1st 7 games on the road the Firecats return to Southwest Florida to begin a 3 game home stand. The (5-2) Firecats host the (1-6) South Georgia Wildcats this Saturday May 27th at Germain Arena. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30pm.

The Games can be heard each week on 98.9 FM WGUF Naples FM Talk and www.ABC-7.com and www.NBC-2.com.
