
Richmond's Oliveira and Quad City's Tapp earn monthly honors

LAKE ST. LOUIS, MO--- The United Hockey League (UHL) announced Tuesday that Richmond RiverDogs center Mike Oliveira has been named Sher-Wood UHL Player of the Month and Quad City Mallards goaltender Jason Tapp has been named Southern Sports Supply UHL Goaltender of the Month for April.
Oliveira completed the month with 14 points (11g, 3a) and a plus-3 rating in nine games played. He had a point in eight of the nine games and a goal in seven of the nine. His shooting percentage was .306 in those contests. He registered six multi-point games during the month. Three of his 11 goals were shorthanded and he completed the regular season with the most shorthanded goals in the UHL (10). The 27-year-old native of West Lorne, Ontario led the UHL with 61 goals this season and ranked third in scoring with 105 points (61g, 44a). Oliveira was also the UHL Player of the Month for January.
Other players nominated for the Sher-Wood UHL Player of the Month include: Adirondack Frostbite left wing Hugo Belanger, Danbury center David Hymovitz, Elmira defenseman Trevor Burgess, Flint center Terry Marchant, Fort Wayne right wing Jamie Milam, Kalamazoo center Jason Deitsch, Missouri left wing Jim Duhart, Motor City center Greg Bullock, Muskegon left wing David Wrigley, Port Huron defenseman Shayne Tomlinson, Quad City defenseman Steve O'Rourke, Roanoke right wing Jan Jas, and Rockford right wing Greg Barber.
Tapp finished the month with a 6-0-0 record, a 1.67 goals against average (GAA), a .952 save percentage (SPCT), and one shutout. He made more than 30 saves in each of his victories and only once allowed more than two goals in a contest. He stopped all 31 shots by Motor City on April 8th to record his fifth shutout of the season. In three shootouts during the month, he stopped 14 of 16 shooters. Tapp has won 11 of his last 12 starts and helped the Mallards earn a berth in the Colonial Cup Playoffs. The 28-year-old native of Kelowna, British Columbia completed the regular season with a 34-20-7 record. His 2.57 GAA ranked fourth among UHL goaltenders and his .916 SPCT ranked fifth. He ranked second in minutes played (3641:52) and was fourth in saves (1704).
