SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Minnesota Swarm (3-3) returns home to face the Philadelphia Wings (3-1) Friday night at 7:00 PM at Xcel Energy Center looking for its first home win of the season. The Swarm is 3-0 on the road this season and 0-3 at home. Friday's game marks the third and final match against Philadelphia this season. The Wings defeated the Swarm 15-11 in Minnesota's home opener on January 6 and the Swarm returned the favor by defeating Philadelphia 13-10 the following weekend in the Wings' home opener on January 14.
Swarm goaltender Nick Patterson, the reigning NLL Defensive Player of the Week is 3-0 and leads the league with a 8.53 goals against average (GAA) and a .835 save percentage. Ryan Ward led Minnesota in scoring last week with four points (1-3=4) and ranks first on the team in scoring with 23 points (7-16=23) this season. His point total ranks tied for 11th in the NLL. Brock Boyle scored the game-winning goal and collected an assist in the Swarm's 7-6 win at Edmonton last Friday. He ranks second in scoring amongst NLL defenseman with 13 points (7-6=13) and tied for first in goals with seven. Boyle has scored on all seven of his shots this season for a perfect 1.00% shooting percentage.
Dan Marohl leads Philadelphia in scoring with 21 points (6-15=21) and rookie Sean Greenhalgh, the reigning NLL Rookie of the Month, is second on the team in scoring with 17 points (7-10=17). Goalie Matt Roik is 3-0 with a 10.87 GAA and a .771 save percentage.
After failing to score a power play goal in its first two games of the season (0-for-8), Minnesota has scored three power play goals in each of its last four games (12-for-27, 44.4%). The Swarm ranks second in the NLL in penalty killing stopping 26 of 36 shorthanded situations (72.2%). Philadelphia owns the top ranked penalty-killing unit having allowed just five power goals in 23 shorthanded situations (78.2%).
Guns N' Hoses Night will be highlighted by numerous events and activities featuring local police officers and firefighters. By showing their badge or identification, police officers and firefighters can purchase a special lower level ticket for $12.00 to Friday's game. As part of this offer, $5.00 from each ticket will benefit the Minnesota Chapter of COPS (Concerns of Police Survivors) and the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).
