Metairie, LA - As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, Zephyrs officials are counting their blessings after sustaining mostly cosmetic damage to Zephyr Field and find that things are looking positive for a great 2006 season.

"It is a long process getting Zephyr Field back to where it needs to be," said Mike Schline, Zephyrs General Manager. "The ballpark is structurally ok but we have a lot more to work out with our insurance in the coming weeks. We would like to have all repairs completed by February 1st so that our ballpark can potentially host college baseball at that time."

The team has also eased into its early sales season. Schline said he expects things to pick up significantly after January 1st, when the team will more pro-actively pursue local businesses to support what will likely be the only professional sports team in the New Orleans area to play its entire season locally in 2006.

"So far we have talked to a lot of our 2005 sponsors about returning for the 2006 season and gotten a positive response," said Schline. "Come January 1st, our sales campaign will become more pro-active, and we are hoping that other businesses that have not had a relationship with us in the past will step up and take a longer look at supporting the Zephyrs in 2006."

On the baseball side, the Zephyrs are looking forward to their second year of affiliation with the Washington Nationals. Today the Nationals announced Spring Training will begin on March 2nd, and should name an owner in the coming weeks, a development that should benefit the Zephyrs directly as Washington becomes more aggressive in the free agent market.

"Once the Nationals name an owner, that should allow them to pursue talent in free agency, which would likely have a trickle-down effect on the Zephyrs and leave us with some good talent," added Schline.

2006 will mark the Zephyrs 14th season in New Orleans. The Zephyrs can be reached at 504-734-5155 for more information on the 2006 season. The team opens at home on April 6th against the Round Rock Express.
