Mammoth signs Wittman, Still and Torpey

DENVER - Chad Wittman, whose lacrosse career flourished at the University of Denver, is returning to the Mile High City. Colorado Mammoth general manager Steve Govett announced that Wittman has signed a two-year contract with the team.

The 6-foot-2, 200-pound forward was a National Lacrosse League rookie with Vancouver in 2003 and played the last two seasons in Anaheim.

"We're very excited to bring Chad Wittman back to Colorado," Govett said. "He is extremely fast and his quickness creates problems for opposing defenses. He is also a young player whose game has improved every year he's been in the league."

Wittman tallied eight goals and eight assists in 11 games for the Storm last season. He registered 65 points in 40 games over three seasons at DU.

The Mammoth also announced it has re-signed goaltender Tom Still and defenseman Jon Torpey. Still has been with the Mammoth since the team moved to Denver from Washington, D.C. prior to the 2003 season and has been used primarily as the team's No. 3 goaltender. Torpey signed with the Mammoth prior to last season and spent much of the year on the practice player list.
