Renegades add Canadian fullback

OTTAWA â The Ottawa Renegades Football Club announced the signing of three players Thursday. The Renegades inked Canadian fullback Lloyd Orris as well as a pair of imports â defensive back Leonard Myers and defensive lineman Michael Moncrief.
Orris, a 5-foot-10, 200-pound product of Simon Fraser University is a non-import who previously played for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2003. The 24-year-old was a fifth round (40th overall) selection by the Bombers in the 2002 Canadian College Draft. Also a long snapper, the Winnipeg native played in 31 university games, accumulating over 800 all-purpose yards and four touchdowns during his days with the Clansmen.
"We are pleased to have Lloyd coming to training camp," said Joe Paopao, head coach and general manager of the Renegades. "He is the typical fullback with his size and a physical type of player with soft hands who can touch the ball. He has been out of football for the last two years working on his degree â which we are in full support of."
Myers, a 26-year-old, who has been in the NFL since 2001 after coming out of the famed University of Miami program, will get his CFL debut when he arrives at training camp. The six-foot, 200-pound native of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. previously played with the New England Patriots (2001-2003), New York Jets (2003) and Detroit Lions (2004).
"Leonard is a guy we've been trying to sign for the past two years, but he's been in the NFL," said Paopao. "We think he's got the talent to upgrade our depth and is going to make for some interesting battles in camp. He's a physical guy who has got some size."
Moncrief, nicknamed "Cherokee", is a product of the University of Northern Alabama â where he was an All-American in 1996. Since launching his professional career in 1999, the 30-year-old has spent time in the Regional football League (linebacker and kicker for the Mississippi Pride in 1999), Indoor Professional Football League (Shreveport-Bossier City Bombers, defensive player of the year in 2000), Arena Football 2 (offensive and defensive line with Bossier City Battle Wings, 2001) and Arena Football (defensive line New Jersey Gladiators, 2001 and 2002).
"We know Michael can run and knows what it takes to get the job done," said Paopao, of the 6-foot-2, 250 pound defensive end. "He is the prototype guy for coming off the edge in our league."
The Renegades also announced that they have released four players â a pair of Americans and two Canadians â as the team continues to build its training camp roster. Linebacker Reggie Givens, running back Raymonn Adams as well as non-imports Charles Assman (linebacker) and kicker Demetris Scouras were let go by the club.
