New Mexico Scorpions News Release
ALBUQUERQUE â Hockey can be a bloody sport, but the New Mexico Scorpions hockey team, New Mexico's WB and United Blood Services are teaming up to make sure that blood goes to a good cause. The partners announced today that the week of Feb. 21 will be Give Blood, Play Hockey Week presented by New Mexico's WB.
On Tuesday, Feb. 22 from 3 to 6 p.m., the Scorpions will be hosting the United Blood Services Bloodmobile for a blood drive in the parking lot of the team's offices, 6300 San Mateo NE in the Far North Shopping Center. Several Scorpions players will be on hand to sign autographs, and those who donate will receive a coupon good for $4 off a grandstand ticket for the Scorpions' home game on Saturday, Feb. 26 vs. Topeka and a Give Blood, Play Hockey T-shirt.
For those who are unable to make it out on the 22nd, the Bloodmobile will be in front of Tingley Coliseum prior to the game against the Tarantulas on the 26th beginning at 3:30 p.m. Interested parties can also donate blood directly at United Blood Services, 1515 University NE, to get their coupon.
"Every year we look forward to supporting United Blood Services," said Scorpions Senior Vice President/General Manager Geoff Kent, "and to have New Mexico's WB join in this year will hopefully add a great new dimension. We are looking forward to Give Blood, Play Hockey Week and hope everybody takes advantage of this opportunity to help out a good cause."
The Scorpions begin a six-game road trip, their longest of the season, when they travel to Bossier-Shreveport on Friday, Feb. 11. Faceoff is 6:05 p.m. MST, and the game will be broadcast on Sports Radio 610 The Sports Animal and on the Internet at www.scorpionshockey.com and www.broadcastmonsters.com. Airtime is 5:50 p.m. with the Voice of the Scorpions Mike Sheehan.
The Scorpions return to Tingley Coliseum on Friday, Feb. 25 and Saturday, Feb. 26 as the Topeka Tarantulas make their first-ever visit to Tingley Coliseum. Faceoff both nights is 7:05 p.m. The Feb. 25 game is the fourth and final Sonic Trading Card Night of the season to the first 1,000 fans. The Feb. 26 game is ABC Seamless Clapper Night to the first 2,500 fans. The Scorpions are also at home on Sunday, Feb. 27 against Oklahoma City at 5:05 p.m. The games on the 26th and 27th are both Comcast Family 4-Pack games (4 tickets, 4 hot dogs and 4 sodas all for $44), while there will be a Skate with the Scorpions after the Feb. 27 game.
Tickets for all Scorpions regular season home games are available at the Scorpions Team Store, located at 6300 San Mateo NE at the corner of San Mateo and Academy in the Far North Shopping Center, and any TicketMaster outlet. Single-game tickets start as low as $11.
