
Tate and Jones Earn Players of the Week Honors

Pulaski's Derek Tate and Danville's Brandon Jones have been named Appalachian League Players of the Week by the Sports Network.
Tate was simply dominating in two starts for the Blue Jays last week. In a no decision against Princeton on July 25th, the southpaw surrendered one unearned run on five hits in five innings of work and fanned six. Pulaski would go on to win the game, 3-2.
In the nightcap of a doubleheader at Kingsport on July 31st, Tate scattered four hits over 5 1/3rd solid innings and struck out 10. He totaled 16 strikeouts in 10 1/3rd innings, did not allow an earned run and did not issue a walk.
Danville's Jones hit at a steady .419 clip in eight games for the Braves. The outfielder drove in six runs on 13 total hits, including two doubles, a triple and a home run. Jones is hitting .286 on the year.
Past Players of the Week honorees include Yuber Rodriguez and Yesson Berroa of the Pulaski Blue Jays in Week 1, Kingsport's Seth Pietsch and Greeneville's Juan Gutierrez in Week 2, Pietsch and Bluefield's Wimer Mendez in Week 3, Princeton's Carlos Ramos, and Elizabethton's Steven Duguay in Week 4 and Danville's Carl Loadenthal and Greeneville's Juan Gutierrez in Week 5.
