Florence Y'alls News Release
FLORENCE, KY - The Florence Y'alls (42-30) took both games of the doubleheader Sunday by a final of 7-4 in game one and 3-1 in game two. Florence swept the seven-game homestand and has won eight straight games.
John Girard toed the rubber for Florence in game one, returning to the starting rotation after an appearance out of the bullpen. Girard's surrendered a pair of doubles in the first to open the scoring, a two-run homer in the third, and a solo shot in the sixth. The Hanover alum earned his second win of the season, tossing five innings and allowing four runs on four hits with five strikeouts.
The Y'alls received an RBI walk from Garrett Broussard in the first and an RBI single from Brett Blomquist in the second to take a 2-1 lead. Down 3-2 in the third, Zade Richardson clobbered a solo shot, his eighth of the season, to tie the game once again.
Florence would take the lead on another RBI single from Blomquist in the fourth to score Shaneyfelt again. Hank Zeisler clobbered a two-run blast in the fourth and a solo bomb in the sixth to make it 7-4. It was the second multi-homer game of the week for the Captain, who has slugged a remarkable seven homers in six games this week.
Logan Jones escaped a bases-loaded nobody-out jam in the sixth, where he stranded the tying runs in scoring position. After a long rain delay suspended the seventh inning, Danny Heintz closed out the Grizzlies for his second save of the season and a 7-4 win.
In game two, Florence opened the scoring with two runs in the first. Tyler Shaneyfelt came home to score on a bases-loaded wild pitch, and Garrett Broussard brought home Zeisler with a sacrifice fly.
Jett Lodes worked as the opener for the second time this season with CJ Blowers handling the bulk relief. Lodes tossed two scoreless frames with two strikeouts before handing the ball off to Blowers. The tall lefty took care of business the rest of the way, finishing with 4.2 innings and only allowing one run on four hits.
Florence was being no-hit through five innings, and Zeisler had been intentionally walked in his first two plate appearances. He led off the sixth inning and roped a solo bomb to right on the first pitch he saw. Zeisler ends the week with an absurd eight home runs and 19 RBIs while going 15-for-24 at the plate.
Florence receives the off-day on Monday before heading east to open a six-game road trip against the Atlantic Conference. The Y'alls start with a three-game series versus the Sussex County Miners on Tuesday when LHP Jonaiker Villalobos takes the hill. First pitch is set for 7:05 PM ET.
