Ze Roberto Named Sockers Player of the Week
February 16, 2011 - Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL)
San Diego Sockers News Release
San Diego Sockers defender Ze Roberto has been the Sockers' most consistent defender all season. Last week, an offensive outburst was enough for Roberto to earn his first Sockers Player of the Week honor. Roberto had two goals and an assist in the Sockers' 15-10 victory over Revolucion Tijuana on Saturday night at the Del Mar Arena.
Roberto came into the Saturday contest against Tijuana as the only Sockers player to have started every game without scoring a goal. Ze's contributions to the Sockers should not be minimized though, as he has consistently saved goals for the team with his outstanding individual and team defense. In Feburary 5th's 5-0 victory over Tacoma, Roberto swept four different potential goals off the line to preserve keeper Riley Swift's shutout.
Roberto quickly got the action going against Tijuana by scoring the game's first goal, potting home a rebound of his own missed shot. Ze's second goal helped clinch the game, making it 14-9 late in the fourth quarter. On the season Roberto has already matched his points total from last year with 11 points (2 goals, 9 assists) in 14 games.
The Western Division Champion Sockers continue their season-ending three game homestand with their final meeting of the year with the California Cougars. It's "Ladies Night" at the Del Mar Arena, with all women aged 21 and over who purchase Arena Room tickets receiving free drinks from the second quarter through the end of halftime. Tickets are available at www.sdsockers.com or by calling (866) 799-GOAL.
