Zach Reget, Reigning MASL Rookie-Of-The-Year, Joins Tropics in Trade with Ambush

LAKELAND, Fla. - The Florida Tropics remarkable roster overhaul prior to the 2019-2020 season continued today with the acquisition of reigning Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) Rookie of the Year Zach Reget.

Reget was acquired from the St. Louis Ambush in a trade that sends forward Andre Braithwaite to St. Louis. No further details about the trade, per league and team policy, were released.

He was part of the Ambush reserve team in 2017-18 and did not appear in a game but burst on the scene last season with 22 goals and 10 assists, to go along with 12 blocked shots.

"Zach has the skill, passion, physical traits and instincts at both ends of the floor to be a star in this league for many, many years to come. I truly believe that last year was actually just the tip of the iceberg for him," Tropics coach Clay Roberts said. "He's the complete package, and fits in perfectly to our rebuilt roster of warriors and winners."

Reget, who enjoyed a stellar career at Trinity University before landing with the Ambush, was also named to the All-MASL Newcomers team for 2018-19. He is the second former Rookie-of- the-Year honoree signed by Florida this summer. Gordy Gurson, who banged in 34 goals (fifth in the MASL last season) and added 24 assists for the Orlando SeaWolves last year, earned the honor at the end of the 2014- 15 season, and signed with the Tropics in the offseason.

Reget is a native of Kenosha, Wisconsin. He played collegiate soccer at Trinity International University in Deerfield, Illinois, where he was a four year starter, NCCAA All- American, four time CCAC All- Region Team, two time CCAC first team selection, NCCAA All- Midwest Region first team, Team Captain, four time Offensive Player of the Year, three time Trinity MVP and third on the list of all-time goal scorers.

Braithwaite was acquired in the middle of last season by the Tropics in a trade that sent forward Freddy Moojen to Utica City FC. Braithwaite was an immediate contributor, scoring 10 goals in 11 games. Prior to last year, he spent three years with the Kansas City and Missouri Comets, combining for 28 goals in 46 games there.

The Tropics roster overhaul, in addition to the trade for Reget, also includes 11 free agent signings in the off-season, including five of the top 23 free agents as ranked by the independent website turfandboards.com which covers the sport. In addition to the third ranked Gurson, the list includes and No. 6 Ricardo Carvalho who had 30 goals with Harrisburg, Joey Tavernese (No. 12) and Drew Ruggles (No. 13) and most recently Efrain "Wilo" Martinez (No. 23.)

Fans can get season-tickets for a low as $70 for the 12-game home slate which starts Saturday, Dec. 14 against the local rival Orlando SeaWolves. Those two teams will tangle in the season opener on Friday, November 22 in Orlando.
