York Revolution News Release
The York Revolution (7-5) picked up their third straight win and a two-game sweep with a 3-2 win over the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (2-9) on Wednesday at Regency Furniture Stadium.
The game was scoreless through five innings, as Revs starter Mitch Atkins and Blue Crabs starter Casey Delgado went out-for-out on get-away day.
The Revs were the first on the board in the game when they broke the scoreless tie in the top of the sixth. With the bases loaded and one out, Welington Dotel smashed a fly ball to center field for a sac fly, scoring Travis Witherspoon to make it 1-0.
Atkins notched a shutdown inning in the sixth, and his day was done after six shutout innings. The right-hander allowed just two infield hits and one walk, and had one strikeout.
Robert Carson came on to pitch the bottom of the seventh with the Revs up 1-0, and gave up a two-out RBI single to Frank Martinez to tie the game.
The Revs came right back in the top of the eighth. Alexi Casilla reached on an infield single to start the inning, and Zach Wilson walked. With one out, Dotel smoked a triple to the right-center field gap off Crabs reliever Craig Stem, scoring both Casilla and Wilson to give the Revs a 3-1 lead. Dotel drove in all three of the Revs' runs.
Joe Van Meter gave up one run in the bottom of the inning, but stranded the tying run on third base.
Junior Rincon was called on to pitch the ninth and retired the Blue Crabs in order to lock down the one-run win and earn the save, his second of the season.
Carson (2-0) picked up the win and Stem (0-1) took the loss.
The Revs have an off day on Thursday, before returning home to open a three-game series with the New Britain Bees Friday at 6:30 p.m. at PeoplesBank Park. It is Grease Night, York Country Day School Night, York County Literacy Council Buck-A-Book Night, and the game is sponsored by the York County Economic Alliance. Tickets are on sale at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the York Revolution Ticket Office.
Notes: The three-game winning streak is the Revs' first of the season, as is the series sweep.
