Augusta RiverHawks News Release
The Augusta RiverHawks ran into a hot goalie Saturday night at the James Brown Arena as they fell to the Fayetteville FireAntz 4-1. The crowd of 3,411 watched goaltender Travis Yonkman make 37 saves to lead his team to their fourth win in a row.
The loss drops the RiverHawks to sole possession of fourth place in the SPHL, while the FireAntz creeped up into fifth place, just four points back of Augusta.
The FireAntz opened up the scoring early in the first period as Chris Leveille took a centering pass from the corner and fired a one-timer past RiverHawks' goaltender Jon Olthuis.
The score remained the same until late in the first period as forward Jim Gehring deflected a shot from Curtis Megginson past FireAntz goaltender Travis Yonkman. The goal was Gehring's second since joining the RiverHawks.
The FireAntz regained the lead for good when Nathaniel Brooks drove down the side boards and fired a centering pass to Anthony Perdicaro who blasted it past Olthuis. Rob Sich and Anthony Perdicaro scored insurance goals in the third period to ensure the victory.
Olthuis recorded the loss despite making 25 saves. RiverHawks' forward Egor Mironov extended his point streak to seven games with an assist on Gehring's goal, while Lucas Labelle had his eight-game streak snapped.
The RiverHawks are back in action at the James Brown Arena Friday, February 4th as they face the Columbus Cottonmouths. The puck drops at 7:30pm.
