Yakama Sun Kings to host 2008 CBA All-Star Classic

March 5, 2007 - Continental Basketball Association 1 (CBA 1) News Release

ALBANY, NY (March 5, 2007) - The Continental Basketball Association today announced that the Yakama Sun Kings will host the 2008 CBA All-Star Classic to be held on January 22, 2008 at the Yakama Sun Dome.

This will be the fourth time the Sun Kings have hosted the CBA's annual showcase of talent, having played the All-Star Classic at the Sun Dome in 1992, 1997 and 2004. The announcement breaks a four-way tie for most times a team or city has hosted the event; Sioux Falls, Scranton and Wilkes-Barre have hosted the Classic three times apiece.

Ralph Sampson, Jr. chairman of the Overall Economic Committee for the Yakama Nation, which owns the Sun Kings, made the announcement to the Sun Dome crowd at halftime of last night's game against Minot.

"Being unanimously voted as the host for the 2008 CBA All-Star Game is a credit to our entire organization and, most importantly, our fans who continue to support the Sun Kings," stated Sampson, Jr. "This event will generate national attention to the Sun Kings and our corporate partners. We plan on putting together the best All-Star Game for our fans, the CBA, and all of the Sun Kings sponsors."

Butte, Montana hosted the 2007 CBA All-Star Classic, which was won by Yakama head coach Paul Woolpert's National Conference team, 134-131 in overtime.

Stated CBA Director of Operations Dennis Truax, "The Sun Kings organization is one of the premiere franchises in all of minor league sports. The Sun Dome is a great venue for basketball and their fans have showed their support for the CBA every year since 1990. They have hosted three great All-Star Games in the past, and I expect nothing less than a first-class show in 2008."

In the last All-Star Game in Yakama, the 20th CBA All-Star Classic, held on January 20, 2004, the National All-Stars held off the American All-Stars for a 105-103 victory. The game featured six players who were called-up to the NBA during the season, or who had previous NBA experience (Anthony Bonner, Maurice Carter, Josh Davis, Kaniel Dickens, Eddie Gill, Anthony Miller), and played host to scouts from over 15 different NBA teams.
