Xavier Bourgault Named QMJHL Player of the Week

Montreal, QC - The latest Player of the Week accolades in the QMJHL have been earned by Shawinigan Cataractes center Xavier Bourgault. In three games, the 19-year-old from L'Islet, Quebec scored three times and added seven assists while the Cataractes went 3-0-0-0 on the week.
On Thursday night in Quebec City, Bourgault factored into all the Shawinigan scoring by providing a pair of assists in a 2-1 victory over the Remparts. The outcome snapped a nine-game win streak for the top-ranked Remparts while sending the Cataractes to their sixth consecutive triumph.
On Friday night in Boisbriand, the fourth-year veteran scored twice, including the game-winner midway through the third period, and added another helper in Shawinigan's 5-4 win over the Armada. For Bourgault, who was named the game's first star, his game-winner represented the 150th regular season point of his QMJHL career.
On Saturday night at home, Bourgault and his teammates put an exclamation point on the week by running their win streak to eight games thanks to an 8-5 victory over the Armada to complete the home-and-home sweep. On this night, Bourgault scored once and added four assists to capture third star honors for the game. It was also his eighth multi-point game of the young campaign.
Bourgault currently leads the league's scoring derby with 24 points in 12 games. He also sits in a three-way tie for second place in goals with 10. It's been a spectacular run for the highly touted center, who was chosen 22nd overall by the Edmonton Oilers at the 2021 NHL Entry Draft.
