Wuerfel Park Earns Ballpark Of The Year Award

TRAVERSE CITY - Wuerfel Park, home of the Traverse City Beach Bums, was notified this morning they had been awarded Digital Ballpark's "2008 Ballpark of the Year" Award.

"We are humbled and thrilled by the news that Wuerfel Park has been named the 2008 Ballpark of the Year by Digital Ballparks," said Beach Bums' General Manager Leslye Wuerfel. "This is a great honor not only for our organization, but for the fans who make coming out to Wuerfel Park such a great experience. They also share in this award as much as we do."

Digital Ballparks is an online digital baseball museum (www.digitalballparks.com) created by Eric and Wendy Pastore, who travel the country every summer to critique ballparks and take digital photographs of a vast variety of ballparks from collegiate summer leagues to the major league stadiums. Recent winners of the Ballpark of the Year award include Lindquist Field (Ogden Raptors - 2007), Bellsouth Park (Chattanooga Lookouts - 2006), GCS Ballpark (Gateway Grizzlies - 2005), The Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville (Jacksonville Suns - 2004), Campbell Field (Camden Riversharks - 2003) and 1st Energy Field (Reading Phillies - 2002).

As part of winning the award, Wuerfel Park will be added to Digital Ballpark's Hall of Fame, having earned a spot on the front page of website. The website includes a pictorial of Wuerfel Park complete with story line by the Pastore's.

Wuerfel Park's award in 2008 marks just the third time an independent team has won the award.
