June 14, 2010 - Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) News Release
SAN FRANCISCO, CA (June 14, 2010) - Women's Professional Soccer announced 14 reserves on Monday for the 2010 WPS All-Star Game presented by U.S. Coast Guard Reserve, which kicks off at 8pm on June 30 at KSU Soccer Stadium in Kennesaw, Georgia. The reserves were selected by the WPS Commissioner and two WPS All-Star Game Head Coaches, Albertin Montoya (FC Gold Pride) and Paul Riley (Philadelphia Independence), based on wide-ranging criteria including needs at various positions, 2010 performance, return from injury or inaction, and other individual accolades and attributes.
With a unique All-Star Game format selected for 2010, each team captain will choose their starting team together with the All-Star Game head coaches. Washington Freedom forward Abby Wambach will choose "Abby XI" as the home team together with Philadelphia Independence Head Coach Paul Riley, while FC Gold Pride star Marta will chose "Marta XI" as the away team with FC Gold Pride Head Coach Albertin Montoya at a unique playground pick-em event for fans on Monday, June 28. Immediately following the starting picks, reserves will be placed on Abby XI and Marta XI to round out the All-Star squads.
The 2010 WPS All-Star Game, featuring Abby XI vs. Marta XI, will kick-off at 8pm ET. The game will be televised live nationally on Fox Soccer Channel and regionally on select Fox Sports Net and Comcast SportsNet regional affiliates (check local listings) with coverage starting at 7:30pm ET with a half-hour pre-game show.
