Worcester Red Sox RHP John Holobetz (1-2, 5.74) vs. Syracuse Mets RHP Jonah Tong (3-6, 5.15)

Need a Winning Weekend in Syracuse - The Worcester Red Sox - who from June 30 - August 9 when five consecutive 6-game series - need to win both tonight and tomorrow afternoon in Syracuse to avoid suffering their second straight series loss. Down 3 games to 1 here in Syracuse, the WooSox face the Mets tonight at 6:35 pm and in the series finale on Sunday at 1:05 pm. They need to win both to gain a split of the series and avoid back-to-back series setbacks after dropping 4 of 6 at home to Buffalo from August 11-16. Worcester is 11-8-2 in their 21 series thus far...11 wins, 8 losses, and 2 splits. Tonight's Game 5 at NBT Bank Stadium in Syracuse, NY can be heard back in New England on NASH 98.9 FM and the rest of the WooSox Radio Network.

This Series - As mentioned, the Sox have lost 3 of the first 4 games here in Syracuse this week (5-1 on Tuesday, 5-0 on Thursday, and 4-3 last night) with their lone victory a come-from-behind win on Wednesday, 9-7.

What Have You Done for Me Lately - Worcester has lost 6 of their last 7 games and they are 3-8 in their last 11 games following a 4-game winning streak from August 4-8. The 3-8 skid comes after the WooSox went 15-2 between July 22 - August 8. Furthermore, between June 28 and August 8 the WooSox won 24 of 30 games.

Story Time with IKF - Boston Red Sox INF Trevor Story was 0-for-4 with two strikeouts as the WooSox shortstop last night and is now 3-for-13 in four rehab games with 1 RBI and 2 runs scored. Story has been joined in Syracuse by fellow rehabbing Red Sox infielder Isiah Kiner- Falefa who did not play last night. He is 1-for-6 in his two rehab games (one at 2B and 1 at SS).

Kiner-Falefa will leadoff and play second base tonight while Story bats second and plays shortstop.

Kiner-Falefa has been on Boston's injured list since June 19 with left forearm inflammation that was ultimately diagnosed as a stress reaction in his left ulna bone. Story has been on the Red Sox injured list since May 15 with a sports hernia that eventually required surgery.

IKF hit .277 with 2 HR, 13 RBI, and 7 SB in 47 games for the Red Sox this season including 27 games at 2B, 16 at SS, 8 at 3B, 1 at 1B, and 1 as the DH. His last game was June 18 vs. Toronto when he went 1-for-3 with a HR. He was placed on the 10-day IL on June 20 (retro to June 19) and then transferred to the 60-day IL on August 11.

Story, 33, played in 41 games for the Red Sox this season batting .206 with 3 HR & 19 RBI. He had an excellent season in 2025 hitting .263 with 25 HR & 96 RBI in 157 games. All Good Things Come to an End - After a month+ of outstanding play, the WooSox have fallen into a funk going 3-8 since August 9. That compares to 8.1 runs per game while they won 15 of 17 before this slump (138 runs total). Sox pitchers are 3-8 with a 5.07 ERA in their last 11 games (55 ER in 97.2 IP). On the other hand, while winning 15 of 17 games between July 22 and August 8, Worcester's stats during that impressive stretch were outstanding.
