AUGUST 18th WORCESTER (26-18)/(62-53) at SYRACUSE (21-23)/(59-60) 6:35 pm
Worcester Red Sox RHP Jedixson Paez (0-0, 0.00) vs. Syracuse Mets RHP Xzavion Curry (2-0, 4.56)
Five Times Six Equals 30 - The Worcester Red Sox begin the final five weeks of the regular season when they open the first of their remaining five series on the schedule tonight vs. the Syracuse Mets at 6:35 pm at NBT Bank Stadium in Syracuse, NY. Including this week/weekend, the WooSox have five 6-game series left to play to account for their final 30 games of the regular-season...a regular season that ends on September 20. The Sox and Mets play the next five nights all at 6:35 pm before the series and Sox roadtrip finale on Sunday afternoon at 1:05 pm. Tonight's game can be heard back in New England on NASH 98.9 FM, The Pike 100.1 FM, and the rest of the WooSox Radio Network.
Three Downs - After not losing two in a row during an 18-game stretch between July 22 - August 9, the WooSox have currently dropped 3 straight games for the first time in seven weeks since they matched their season-long 5-game losing streak from June 23-27 (all at home vs. Toledo). Worcester's present 3-game skid all came at the hands of the Buffalo Bisons last Friday - Sunday by scores of 6-2, 7-5 in 10-innings, and 9-6 in their last game on Sunday.
The Rest of the Story - Boston Red Sox INF Trevor Story, on the Red Sox injured list since May 15 with a sports hernia that eventually required surgery, will continue his injury rehab assignment with the WooSox tonight in Syracuse. Trevor played 4-innings at shortstop going 1-for-2 in his first rehab game on Sunday vs. Buffalo. Story, 33, played in 41 games for the Red Sox this season batting .206 with 3 HR & 19 RBI. He had an excellent season in 2025 hitting .263 with 25 HR & 96 RBI in 157 games. He also tied a Major League record with 31 consecutive stolen bases before being caught in his 32nd and final attempt of the year. Trevor's 20+ HR and 20+ SB season was the third ever by a Red Sox shortstop joining John Valentin (27 HR & 20 SB in 1995) and Nomar Garciaparra (30 HR & 22 SB in 1997).
Scoreboard Watching - Here are the latest standings in the race for the one playoff spot that comes with the best record in the 2nd half among all 20 International League clubs. Indianapolis remains on top at 28-17 followed by St. Paul 1 GB at 27-18 and then a virtual three-way tie for 3rd-place between the WooSox (26-18), Durham (26-18), and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (25-17) who are all 11/2 GB of front-running Indy. Worcester has rebounded since an 0-5 start to the 2nd half and they are currently tied for the IL East lead with Durham & Scranton/WB. Indianapolis is both the IL West leader and the overall league leader. The best second half record among all 20-teams in the league earns the one playoff spot that comes with that and a date with 1st half champ Memphis in a best 2 out of 3 series from September 22-24 in Tennessee. The winner of that series goes to Las Vegas to take on the Pacific Coast League champion in a one-game Triple-A National Championship Game on September 26.
A Home Baked Dozen Among 30 - The WooSox have just a dozen home games remaining this year compared to 18 road games. Those two home series could prove to have huge playoff implications. Worcester will host fellow contenders Scranton/Wilkes-Barre for 6-games from August 25-30 and Durham to end the regular season from September 15-20. On the year, Worcester is 34-27 at home compared to 28-26 on the road.
The probable pitching match-ups for the remainder of the series at Syracuse this week/weekend:
Wed. 6:35 pm TBD vs. LHP Jonathan Santucci (0-1, 5.40)
Thur. 6:35 pm RHP Gage Ziehl (1-1, 2.53) vs. TBD
Fri. 6:35 pm RHP Blake Wehunt (1-1, 4.05) vs. RHP Jack Wenninger (NR)
Sat. 6:35 pm RHP John Holobetz (1-2, 5.74) vs. RHP Jonah Tong (3-6, 5.15)
Sun. 1:05 pm RHP Jedixson Paez vs. RHP Xzavion Curry
