AUGUST 16th BUFFALO (24-20)/(59-60) at WORCESTER (26-17)/(62-52) 1:05 pm

Buffalo Bisons RHP Spencer Arrighetti (0-0, 0.00) vs. Worcester Red Sox RHP John Holobetz (1-1, 2.77)

Sunday Series Finale - The Worcester Red Sox will put their superb Sunday record on the line this afternoon when they try to gain a split of their 6-game series against this Buffalo Bisons (AAA-Toronto) in the finale of both this series and Worcester's season-long 12 game homestand. The WooSox trail the series, 3 games to 2 and need a win today to avoid dropping a series of more than two games for the first time since they began the 2nd half by losing 5 of 6 at home to Toledo from June 23-28. The Sox have won 5 straight "extended" series since, although they did lose both games of an abbreviated 2-game set at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on July 17 & 19. Worcester is 13-6 on Sundays this season and can tie their best day if the week/weekend with a win (Sox are 14-6 on Wednesdays).

Homestand Finale - The WooSox are 6-5 on the homestand. They have had 6 winning homestands and 3 losers this season. Including today, Worcester has 13 home games remaining and a total of 31 games left in the regular season. Today's game is live on NESN+ and on NASH 98.9 FM.

The Rest of the Story - Boston Red Sox INF Trevor Story, on the Red Sox injured list since May 15 with a sports hernia that eventually required surgery, will begin an injury rehab assignment at Polar Park today when the WooSox host Buffalo at 1:05 pm. Story, 33, played in 41 games for the Red Sox this season batting .206 with 3 HR & 19 RBI.

He had an excellent season in 2025 hitting .263 with 25 HR & 96 RBI in 157 games. He also tied a Major League record with 31 consecutive stolen bases before being caught in his 32nd and final attempt of the year. Trevor's 20+ HR and 20+ SB season was the third ever by a Red Sox shortstop joining John Valentin (27 HR & 20 SB in 1995) and Nomar Garciaparra (30 HR & 22 SB in 1997).

Overall in 1106 big league games with Colorado (2016-2021) and Boston (2022-2026), Story has a career average of .262 with 207 HR & 655 RBI along with 164 SB.

What Have You Done for Me Lately - Worcester is 2-4 in their last 6 games following a 4-game winning streak from August 4-8. Despite this mini-skid, the Sox have still won 6 of their last 10 games, 10 of their last 15 overall, 14 of their last 19 home games. They are 17-6 since July 22 and 26-11 since June 28.

Scoreboard Watching - With the regular season ending five weeks from today, here are the latest standings in the race for the one playoff spot that comes with the best record in the 2nd half among all 20 International League clubs Indianapolis remains on top at 28-16 followed by the WooSox and Durham tied at 26-17 and 11/2 games back while Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (25-17) and St. Paul (26-18) are in a virtual tie and 2 GB. Worcester has rebounded quite nicely since an 0-5 start to the 2nd half and they are currently tied for the IL East lead with Durham. Indianapolis is both the IL West leader and the overall league leader. The best second half record among all 20-teams in the league earns the one playoff spot that comes with that and a date with 1st half champ Memphis in a best 2 out of 3 series from September 22-24 in Tennessee. The winner of that series goes to Las Vegas to take on the Pacific Coast League champion in a one-game Triple-A National Championship Game on September 26.
