AUGUST 11th BUFFALO (21-18)/(56-58) at WORCESTER (24-14)/(60-49) 6:45 pm
Buffalo Bisons RHP Grant Rogers (2-9, 5.91) vs. Worcester Red Sox RHP John Holobetz (1-0, 0.93)
We Resume Play - The Worcester Red Sox - who took 4 of 6 from Lehigh Valley this past week/weekend here at Polar Park but did suffer a difficult, 7-6 loss in the series finale on Sunday afternoon - resume their season-long 12-game homestand tonight at 6:45 pm with the opener of a 6-game series against the Buffalo Bisons (AAA-Toronto). Worcester was on the verge of their 5th straight victory and coming up winners for the 16th time in their last 18 games on Sunday when Lehigh Valley rallied for 5 runs in the top of the 9th inning to turn a 6-2 deficit into a stunning, 7-6 victory. Now tonight, the WooSox will look to avoid dropping back-to-back games for the first time in 23 days since July 17 & 19 at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Tonight's game is live on NESN+ and can be heard on NASH 98.9 FM and The Pike 100.1 FM.
Winning Ways - Despite the tough loss in their last game on Sunday, Worcester has still won 4 of their last 5 games, 8 of their last 10 overall, 12 of their last 14 home games, has gone 15-3 since July 22, and they are 24-8 since June 28. This impressive run (and their 24-14 record in the 2nd half) has put the WooSox into a tie for 3rd -place overall in the 20-team International League but just a 1/2 game behind Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (who leads the IL East) and Indianapolis (the IL West leader) who are in a virtual tie for the top spot overall in the 2nd half. The best second half record among all 20-teams in the league earns the one playoff spot that comes with that and a date with 1st half champ Memphis in a best 2 out of 3 series from September 22-24 in Tennessee. The winner of that series goes to Las Vegas to take on the Pacific Coast League champion in a one-game Triple-A National Championship Game on September 26. Worcester has 36 games remaining (18 home & 18 away).
Halfway Home(stand) - The WooSox are 4-2 halfway through this season-long 12-game WooSox homestand that continues this week and weekend with a 6-game series vs. Buffalo. Worcester will host the Bisons tonight at 6:45 pm, tomorrow (Wednesday) afternoon at 12:05 pm in the final weekday matinee of the season, Thursday & Friday nights (both at 6:45 pm), and then over the weekend on Saturday at 4:05 pm and Sunday at 1:05 pm. After that the WooSox will have just a dozen home games remaining on the year and those two series could prove to have huge playoff implications. Worcester will host 1st -place Scranton/Wilkes-Barre for 6-games from August 25-30 and (tied for) 3rd -place Durham to end the season from September 15-20.
The probable pitching match-ups for the remainder of the series vs. Buffalo at Polar Park this week and weekend:
