Women's Football Player Wins Pigskin Award

D.C. Divas Running Back, Donna Wilkinson, has been selected as the first female winner of the 2003 Pigskin Club John W. Posey Award. The Posey award recognizes the best football player in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. The Divas are members of the National Women's Football Association.

Wilkinson was chosen for her outstanding play and contribution to the Mid Atlantic Champion D.C. Divas football team. The award will be presented at their 66th Annual Awards Dinner on Friday, January 9, 2004 at the Capital Hilton Hotel.

The Pigskin Club of Washington, D.C. is one of the oldest sports organizations in the United States. Every year for the past sixty years, they have recognized and honored coaches and athletes from all levels of competition and those who have made significant contributions in the business and civic arenas.

Wilkinson is a 4th year veteran with the DC Divas. She ran for 1,267 yards and 13 touchdowns in the 2003 season. She is also a team captain and on the 2003 All Star team. "Having one of our players win this award is very exciting for women's football," states Debby Lening, VP NWFA. "We are very proud of Donna and are looking forward to a great season for her this year," adds Lening.
