Wolves Give Gherson Another Go

The Chicago Wolves have re-signed goaltender ROBERT GHERSON (GEAR-suhn), a member of the 2008 Calder Cup Championship team.

The 24-year-old netminder backstopped 19 regular-season games for the Wolves last year after signing with the team on Oct. 31, posting an 8-6-0 record with a 2.61 goals against average and .914 save percentage. He allowed one or fewer goals in nine of his 19 appearances between the pipes for Chicago.

The Toronto native shared the team lead with two regular-season shutouts, which includes blanking the Houston Aeros on Nov. 17 (30 saves) and Manitoba Moose on Feb. 10 (21 saves). He also notched a 3.61 goals-against average and .750 save percentage in 16:37 of postseason action in two appearances during the team's run to the Calder Cup Championship.

Prior to joining the Wolves, GHERSON appeared in 45 career ECHL contest with the Columbus Inferno, accruing a 17-22-2 record with a 3.64 goals-agaisnt average over two seasons (2005 to 2007). The Washington Capitals ninth choice, 145th overall, in the 2002 National Hockey League Entry Draft, GHERSON has racked up a 29-17-2 record with a 2.63 goals-against average in 55 career American Hockey League games with the Hartford Wolfpack (2005-06), Manitoba Moose (2005-06) and Wolves.

In accordance with team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The Wolves will begin their Calder Cup title defense when they launch the franchise's 15th season in Houston on Oct. 11 at 7:30 p.m. The squad is slated to battle the Peoria Rivermen at the Allstate Arena in the 2008 home opener on Oct. 18 at 7 p.m.
