Manchester Wolves News Release
The arenafootball2 league office announced that DS Travis Pugh and WR/DB Patrick Rouzard have been assigned to the Manchester Wolves professional af2 team for the 2007 season. Both players will be entering their first af2 season.
Pugh (6-1, 195), will enter his rookie season with the Wolves after a solid four-year career (2001-2004) at Clemson University as a free safety. As a Tiger Pugh played in a total of 37 games, including three Bowl appearances, starting his last two seasons where he registered 191 of his 238 career tackles. Following his junior year Pugh, a South Carolina native, was awarded the "Solid Rock Award" from his coaching staff for his consistent and dependable play at the safety position. At Manning High School in South Carolina, Pugh was an all-state, all-area and all-region selection after putting together a complete career on the defense side of the ball with 12 interceptions, 308 total tackles and 40 pass deflections. During his senior season at Manning, he also participated in the Shrine Bowl and was awarded the state's fanpoll.com Defensive Player of the Year honor.
The addition of Pugh will mark the fourth player to trade in their orange Tiger uniform for the blue and black of the Wolves, and he'll look to carry the same success and tradition his former mates brought to Manchester when he suits up for the Wolves in 2007. The former Tigers that have played for the Wolves include; WR/LB J.J. McKelvey (2004-2005), DS Brian Mance (2006), who both now play for Jon Bon Jovi's Philadelphia Soul in the Arena Football League, and OL/DL Cory Groover (2006).
"I'm hoping Travis carries on the Clemson/Manchester tradition, because we've had great success in the past," said Wolves Head Coach Ben Bennett. "He reminds me a lot of Brian Mance, but bigger, and that's pretty scary."
Rouzard (6-3, 200), will enter his rookie season with the Wolves after proving to be a standout at the wide receiver position the last two seasons while competing in an indoor Florida league where he hauled in 113 receptions, 1,523 yards and 20 touchdowns. The Miami, FL native started his college career at Sierra College (2000, 2001) before transferring to Northern Michigan (2002, 2003). At Sierra, Rouzard collected 138 receptions for 1,628 yards and 18 touchdowns while totaling 109 receptions for 1,111 yards and eight touchdowns at Northern Michigan.
"I was very impressed with Pat at the Orlando Predators AFL workout this year," said Bennett. "He's big, strong and aggressive when the ball is in the air. He'll definitely be tough for smaller DB's to handle around the goal line."
Pugh and Rouzard will join OS Jarrail Jackson, QB Shawn Brady, K Connor McCormick, OL/DL Lamar Bryant, WR/LB Jesse Tupper and DS Patrick Horne on the Manchester Wolves 2007 active roster.
