Manchester Wolves News Release

MANCHESTER, N.H. (January 27, 2004) - The arenafootball2 league office announced today that NFL veteran Vernon Crawford and former Maryland standout Matt Kalapinski have been assigned to the Manchester Wolves, New Hampshire's newest professional football team. The Wolves now have 13 players officially on their training camp roster.

"Vernon and Matt are both great additions to our football team," Wolves Head Coach Rik Richards said. "Vernon is a proven professional with three years NFL experience with the Patriots. He'll be one of our veteran leaders, someone the young guys can look up to and learn from. Matt is another NFL-caliber player who spent some time with the Miami Dolphins. I think he has the ability to do some great things with us."

Crawford, a 6-4, 245-pound free agent linebacker, comes to the Wolves with an impressive resume which includes a three-year NFL career with the New England Patriots. In his three years with the Patriots, the Texas City, Texas native played in 41 games and was a key member of the squad's special teams unit. Crawford was originally drafted by the Patriots in the fifth round of the 1997 NFL Draft out of Florida State. He made an immediate impact in his first season with the club, garnering All-Rookie Team honorable mention recognition for special teams. Crawford will likely play fullback/linebacker with the Wolves in 2004.

Kalapinski, a Marshfield, Mass. native, was a four-year letterman at the University of Maryland from 1997-00. The 6-1, 240-pound fullback started 31 of the final 33 games of his collegiate career, finishing with 568 yards rushing and six touchdowns. Kalapinski also caught 32 passes for 382 yards and three touchdowns. After excelling in college, the Miami Dolphins signed the former Terrapin on two occasions (2001, 2003) as an unrestricted free agent. Kalapinski is expected to take on the dual role of fullback/linebacker with the Wolves.
