Manchester Wolves News Release
MANCHESTER, N.H. (November 2, 2005) - The Manchester Wolves, New Hampshire's professional Arena Football team, announced their 2006 schedule today and will begin their third season of play in the granite state on Friday, April 7 when the team hosts the Green Bay Blizzard at the Verizon Wireless Arena. Manchester's 2006 home schedule features four Friday and four Saturday night games. All eight Wolves home games kick-off at 7:30 PM at the Verizon Wireless Arena.
The Wolves have lofty expectations for 2006 after a tremendous 2005 campaign u nder the direction of Ben Bennett. Bennett transformed the Wolves from a 5-11 squad in 2004 into East Division Champions in just one season. In 2005, the Arena Football League Hall-of-Famer guided the Wolves to a franchise-best 12-win season, finishing 12-5 overall. The team's Cinderella season also included a 10-game win streak and a trip to the second round of the af2 playoffs. Manchester also boasted a 6-2 record at home in 2005.
The Wolves get things started with a busy April that has the squad hosting three contests in the Queen City. After their season opener against Green Bay, Manchester will also tackle long-standing East Division adversaries Albany (Sat., April 22) and W-B/Scranton (Sat., April 29) at the Verizon Wireless Arena. In comparison, the Wolves have just one home game in May against Ben Bennett's former team, the Florida Firecats (Sat., May 20). Notable road obstacles for the Wolves during the first part of their 2006 slate includes a date with the 2005 American Conference Champion Louisville Fire (Fri., April 14) and the 2005 ArenaCup Champion Memphis Xplorers (Sat., May 6).
The second half of Manchester's schedule begins with the team's first-ever meeting with the Tulsa Talons on Saturday, June 3 at the Verizon Wireless Arena. The Wolves also travel to Tulsa just two weeks later (Sat., June 17) after a road game against the Quad City Steamwheelers on Saturday, June 10. The Talons won the National Conference's West Division in 2005 with a record of 11-5 and over the last three seasons (2003-05), they have been one of the strongest teams in the af2. During that span, Tulsa has compiled a regular season record of 37-11 overall. The Talons also have an ArenaCup title to their credit, claiming the top prize in 2003.
The Wolves sixth and seventh home games are against familiar foes Louisville (Fri., June 23) and W-B/Scranton (Fri., July 14).
Manchester 's home finale will be on Friday, July 28 against Quad City. This year the Steamwheelers become new members of the American Conference after being part of the National Conference since the league's inception in 2000. A complete af2 division alignment is charted on page 2. A full 2006 Manchester Wolves schedule is attached on page 3.
In other Wolves news, the team will be hosting their first open tryout for prospective players for the 2006 season this Saturday, Nov. 5 at Rising Stars Sportcenter (68 Technology Drive) in Bedford, N.H. Space for the camp is limited so it is "highly recommended" that campers pre-register before Friday, Nov. 4.
