Anchorage Wolverines News Release

The tables turned back in the Wolverines' favor Sunday night as Anchorage skated to a 5-4 victory over the Minnesota Wilderness to close the weekend and take two of three games in the series.

Seth Carlson got the Wolverines on the board early, firing a shot from the slot after John Scott won the faceoff to set up the scoring opportunity.

Minnesota evened the score with less than four minutes remaining in the first period, but Wolverines Captain Caleb Mahar answered before the intermission. Oliver Morris sent the puck to the far side, where Mahar controlled it and buried the shot to give Anchorage a 2-1 lead heading into the locker room.

The Wilderness found another equalizer in the ninth minute of the second period, but the tie didn't last long. Scott sent the puck up ice to Morris, who collected it in the neutral zone, carried it into the offensive zone and picked the top-right corner to put the Wolverines back in front, 3-2.

Anchorage added to its advantage early in the third when Loic Nasreddine intercepted a Minnesota pass and outskated the Wilderness into their zone. Nasreddine finished the play by slipping the puck through the five-hole to extend the Wolverines' lead to two.

Michael Kotora added another insurance goal with just over six minutes remaining. After initially sending the puck toward Morris at the back door, Kotora got another opportunity when it came back to him near the crease and buried the shot to make it 5-3.

Minnesota found the back of the net for the fourth time with just 20 seconds left on the clock, but the late push wasn't enough to complete the comeback as Anchorage held on for the 5-4 victory.

Maverick Avent stood tall between the pipes for the Wolverines, turning aside 27 shots to help secure the win.

The Wolverines return to the Sullivan Arena next Saturday for a one-game matchup against the Wisconsin Windigo. Tickets are on sale now at tickets.anchoragewolverines.com.
