Wisconsin Wolfpack News Release

On paper, the game between the Wisconsin Wolfpack (4-1) and Fort Wayne Freedom (2-2) looked like it would be a close, back-and-forth battle all night Friday at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Madison, Wis. It turned out to be just that on the field as well. The Wolfpack extended their streak of scoring first in games to five, which just happens to be every game in the short history of the franchise.

The teams would then alternate touchdowns to make the score 14-14, before the Freedom would open a bit of a lead. Brian Jackson scored on a shovel pass and Brad Selent added a field goal to give the Freedom a 24-14 halftime lead.

The teams would exchange free throws early in the third quarter to make the score 27-17.

The Wolfpack were able to find the end zone but the extra point attempt was blocked, leaving the Freedom with a 27-23 lead at the end of the third quarter.

The Freedom would extend the lead to 34-23 on a bomb from quarterback Randy Hutchinson to wide receiver Luther Stroder.

The Wolfpack still had some fight left in them however. They scored late in the fourth quarter to trim the lead to 34-31. Then, with 1:54 left to play, defensive back Corey Roberson hauled in his second interception of the night. The Wolfpack marched down the field and scored with 54 seconds left to take a 38-34 lead.

Following a return to the 21-yard line, Hutchinson had trouble connecting. Roberson sealed the win by picking off his third Hutchinson pass of the night and the Wolfpack would run out the clock. Hutchinson was the top-rated passer in the Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL) entering the game Friday night.

Fort Wayne falls to 2-2 on the season and lose their second consecutive game where they were ahead late.

The Wolfpack improve to 4-1 with a trip to Rock River (0-4) on the horizon for next week.
