Wisconsin Wolfpack News Release
ROCKFORD, ILL. - With starting quarterback Tom Stetzer out for the season with a shoulder injury, the Wisconsin Wolfpack failed to score an offensive touchdown until the fourth quarter of their first game without Stetzter and lost to the Rock River Raptors, 25-21, in the Continental Indoor Football League Saturday night.
What little scoring the Wolfpack did came mostly from kicker Paul Schroeder and running back/kick returner Tex Brown. The Wolfpack (4-2) scored first on a long Schroeder field goal, the only points of the first quarter. The Raptors (3-4) would took the lead in the second quarter on a Brian Ryczkowski touchdown pass, but Brown answered back by returning the ensuing kickoff 56 yards for a touchdown. The 10-7 score would stand going into halftime.
A Schroeder field goal in the third quarter made the game 13-7, but the Raptors would score the next 18 points of the game to take a commanding lead. The surge included a pair of touchdowns by Ryczkowski - one passing, one rushing - a field goal and a safety following a fumble in the end zone by new Wolfpack quarterback Brent Luebke. Ryczkowski was the starting quarterback for the Wolfpack's outdoor team in the North American Football League in 2008.
The Wolfpack would bring the game within reach in the fourth quarter. Brown scored his second touchdown of the game on a short run, followed by an Eric Donoval plunge for a two-point conversion. The Raptors next drive stalled and the Wolfpack got the ball back with good field position following a blocked field goal, but the comeback quest ended when Luebke's final pass of the game was intercepted.
Sam D'Alie had two interceptions, both in the end zone, and forced a fumble to lead the Wolfpack defense.
The Wolfpack's next game will be at home against the Milwaukee Bonecrushers. Start time at the Alliant Energy Center Veterans Memorial Coliseum will be 7 p.m Saturday night. Tickets are available by visiting wiwolfpack.com/indoor or ticketmaster.com.
