Sporting Kansas City News Release

The Kansas City Wizards have their sights set on playoff position as they prepare for their upcoming match at 2:30 p.m. CT on Saturday, September 4 against the Philadelphia Union. The Wizards have moved into fourth place in the Eastern Conference with victories in their last two games, and now sit three points out of the final playoff spot with nine games remaining.

The Wizards have found their form in the past two months, going 4-1-2 in their last seven MLS matches. The run started with a 1-0 road victory over Eastern Conference leaders Columbus on July 14 and continued last weekend with a convincing 2-0 win as visitors to the Western Conference's top team, Los Angeles.

Philadelphia is coming off a road win of its own, after emerging as 2-1 victors at New England on Saturday. It was the first victory in seven games for the expansion Union, who sit in seventh place in the East with 20 points from 21 games played. Philadelphia forward Sebastian Le Toux is in the midst of a breakout season with nine goals and ten assists. Both marks rank in the top five in MLS.

Prior to hosting Kansas City on Saturday, the Union will play an international friendly with Chivas Guadalajara on Wednesday, September 1 at PPL Park. Striker Omar Bravo, signed by Kansas City earlier this month as a Designated Player for the 2011 season and on loan to Chivas through the remainder of the 2010 Apertura, was among the 24 players announced on the Chivas roster on Monday. Univision will air the match on a one-hour tape delay in the United States, beginning at 8 p.m. CT.

Kansas City will be without its leading goal scorer, Kei Kamara, on Saturday due to international duty. Kamara was selected by Sierra Leone for an African Cup of Nations qualifier on Sunday, September 5 against defending continental champions Egypt. Following Saturday's game, Wizards defenders Shavar Thomas (Jamaica) and Roger Espinoza (Honduras) will report to their respective national teams for upcoming international fixtures.

Saturday's game will be held at the newly opened PPL Park in Chester, Pennsylvania and will be broadcast live and in high definition in both English and Spanish on KCWE Channel 29. It will also be available over the airwaves on La Gran D 1340 AM.

Please note: The Kansas City Wizards match against the Houston Dynamo has been moved from September 11th to Wednesday, September 22nd at 7:30 p.m. CT at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. Tickets can be purchased by visiting KCWizards.com or by calling 888-4KC-GOAL. The Wizards are also now accepting initial payments for season tickets for the 2011 season, highlighted by the debut of Chivas Guadalajara star and Mexico international Omar Bravo, and the opening of Kansas City's state-of-the-art soccer stadium next summer.
