Winston-Salem Storm News Release
Winston-Salem, NC. The Triad ABA 2008 expansion team had an excellent turnout for the first travel team tryout session. There were forty participants that brought their energy and skills to the Calvary Baptist Church basketball court last Friday and Saturday.
"I observed several players with much intensity and athleticism. The excitement of being a part of this new team filled the gym as the guys ran drills and showcased their skills," stated team owner Wes Mason. "We will be having a selected number of players to be invited back for a second look this weekend."
There were athletes from different areas of the Carolinas. The players represented Appalachian State University, Forsyth Tech Community College, University of North Carolina and many other east coast colleges, universities and high schools. Among those players that tried out were AND1 Baller favorites Baby Shaq, Zeke and Special Effects.
Johh Howard, a Glenn High School alumni and Dallas Maverick team member, came out and showed his support at the tryouts. Josh autographed shirts that were given away during a drawing at the tryouts, which were open to the public. Radio personality, LA Batchelor of 105.7 KissFM was also on hand with some giveaways to the fans that were looking on as their favorite hometown player displayed his talents.
Triad ABA raised over 200 canned goods for Crisis Control Ministries of Winston-Salem. "Each member of Triad ABA has a special charity that will benefit through each event that we have," added Mason.
The sponsors for Triad ABA Travel Team Tryouts are Cavalry Baptist Church, Mountain Fried Chicken, Sports Zone Pub and Grill, ViewFindeers Media, ScottCares Foundation, Next Level Accessories, Old Vineyard Behavioral Health Services, East Coast Wings, Coca Cola and 105.7 KissFM.
The second session of tryouts by invitation only will be closed to the public. The negotiations with the Lawrence Joel Coliseum are close to being finalized.
