Wings Prepare to Halt Wave Streak

December 30, 2012 - Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL)
Wichita Wings News Release

Wichita, KS. - The Wichita Wings (5-6) will look to build on their three game win streak in their match on Monday against the tough Milwaukee Wave (7-2). The Wings are set to play the Wave in an afternoon match on December 31 at 2:00 p.m. (CST). The last time these two clubs met this season, Milwaukee defeated Wichita 12-4 and presently lead the overall series by claiming wins in eight out of nine matches.

On a bit of a hot streak, the Wichita Wings seem to have found the right chemistry to earn them three wins in a row, including victories against both Syracuse and Chicago in this weekend's doubleheader. As result, the Wings have moved up in league standings to sit just one game out of fourth place, and with a victory over the Wave could edge closer to playoff status. Only this match will tell whether the Wings have the power needed to shut down an intense Wave roster that currently holds the league's longest active win streak on the season at six games.

Milwaukee is coming off a pair of narrow wins with a 12-11 triumph over the Syracuse Silver Knights on December 26 and a 14-12 win in Rochester over the Lancers on December 27. This included impressive performances by Marco Leite with five points against the Silver Knights and Luan Oliveira who recorded eight points with a hat trick against the Lancers. Though these efforts were enough to avoid defeat, the Wave appear to be on a defensive backslide that could prove advantageous for the Wings.

Key Match Up: Wichita Attack vs. Milwaukee Defense Wichita's attack has drastically improved over the last three games with three wins to show for it. With better communication and teamwork, the Wings attack, led by Freddy Moojen and Geison, will be a lineup the Wave defense has not yet faced. Milwaukee's defensive performance has been solid so far this season, allowing the fewest goals in the league and ranking them first in goals against with 77.

Player to Watch: Freddy Moojen Freddy Moojen has proven why he wears the captain's band by coming up big in the Wings last three victories, most recently by scoring nine points against Chicago in Saturday night's match. His leadership will be even more crucial against the Wave Monday when he leads the attack to snap Milwaukee's win streak.

Wichita's matchup against Milwaukee is set to kick-off at 2:00 p.m. (CST) in US Cellular Arena. The game can be viewed live on www.uslnation.com/misl. For more information about the Wichita Wings visit www.wichitawingsindoorsoccer.com or follow the team on Facebook and Twitter (@wichita_wings).
