
Wings Overtake Comets in Thriller

Wichita, KS - The Wichita Wings (6-8) would earn their sixth win of the season and the second match against the Missouri Comets (7-9) in a score of 12-11 Saturday night in Hartman Arena. Wichita saw great contributions from several Wings players bringing them closer in the season series against Missouri, 2-3.
The first quarter was a complete clash of defense and consequently little action on the scoreboard. The only goal in the entire quarter came from Leo Gibson in favor of the Comets to give them a 2-0 lead just four seconds before time expired. Kevin Ten Eyck scored the equalizer for the Wings two minutes into the second quarter which was followed by a tap-in goal from Miguel Ferrer off an assist from Alex Moseley to give the Wings their first lead partway through the quarter, 4-2. With just under three minutes before halftime, Edvin Worley gave Wichita their biggest lead of the night. This run would be answered by Leo Gibson's second goal of the night to cut the Wings lead to two at 6-4.
Leo Gibson completed his hat trick fifteen seconds into the third quarter leaving the Comets tied up with the Wings at 6 apiece. Adrian Gonzalez scored his first career goal for the Wings to again allow them an 8-6 lead over the Comets. With a power play advantage, Vahid Assadpour kicked in a 3-point goal to give the Comets a 9-8 lead at the 7:37 mark of the third quarter. In his first night back after nursing an injury, Andre Berenzon also scored his first career goal with the Wings, which gave them a 10-9 advantage at the end of the third quarter.
The final quarter was intense as the Wings and Comets battled for scoring opportunities. Victor Quiroz came up big for the Wings, scoring off a restart to extend their lead over the Comets, 12-9. Byron Alvarez's only action on the night was accumulating three cards that ejected him from the game late in the quarter, which gave the Wings a critical two minute advantage with five minutes left in regulation. Ramone Palmer attempted to bring the Comets closer with a two-point cutting the Wings lead to one point. However, the Comets' efforts were stifled the Wings held on for a 12-11 victory.
