January 7, 2013 - Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL)
Wichita Wings News Release

Wichita, KS-Despite a strong first half, the Wichita Wings (5-8) dropped their third match out of a four game series against the Missouri Comets (7-7) Sunday afternoon in the Independence Event Center in a final score, 24-11. The Wings were not able to close down forward Byron Alvarez, who led all Comets' scorers with nine points to ultimately give Missouri the win to keep them third in league standings.

The first goal of the night was a big three-point goal by defender, Brian Harris early in the first quarter to put the Comets up, 3-0. Geison answered for Wichita with two back to back scores off power plays to give the Wings their first lead. His play was complimented by a three-pointer courtesy of Tiguinho awarding the Wings a 7-3 lead by the end of the first quarter.

Missouri came back strong in the second quarter with a goal from John Sosa and the equalizer from Stefan Stokic to bring the game to 7 each. Not long after, Geison completed his hat trick with a goal to give the Wings a 9-7 lead partway through the quarter. The shootout continued from Missouri's end as Sosa scored for the second time of the night followed by goals from Byron Alvarez and Stefan St. Louis to give the Comets a 14-9 advantage heading into halftime.

In the third quarter, Wichita struggled to stifle Missouri's goal production, giving up two goals by Alvarez and Harris within the first minute of play that extended the Comets lead, 18-9. The Wings continued to backslide as penalties would eventually result in a red card ejection for Geison just three minutes after the start of the quarter. Lucas Rodriguez would score for the Comets before the close of the quarter to allow them their biggest lead of the match, 20-9.

Alvarez would continue to add to the Wings' deficit with his third goal on the night at the beginning of the fourth quarter. Wichita defender Kevin Ten Eyck would fight back with a goal to lessen the blow, but would fail as Alvarez would put away the last goal of the night, sealing the Wings fate in another loss to Missouri; final score 24-11.

The Comets now lead this season's series against the Wings, 3-1 and will face Milwaukee this Thursday before a rematch with the Wings on Saturday in Hartman Arena.
