January 1, 2013 - Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL)
Wichita Wings News Release

Wichita, KS. - In a tough match New Year's Eve, the Wichita Wings (5-7) would not be able to capture a win over the Milwaukee Wave (8-2) on the road in US Cellular Arena as they dropped, 12-6 in the final. Milwaukee was able to snap Wichita's three game win streak with two three-point goals late in the fourth quarter courtesy of Jonathan Greenfield and Israel Sesay to put the game out of reach for the Wings. This would extend the Wave's own win streak to seven, still the longest active streak in the league.

Although the first quarter was a challenge for the Wings offensively, they produced a huge defensive stand against the Wave, holding them to just two points in the first quarter. Milwaukee's Tenzin Rampa scored the first goal of the afternoon to give the Wave a 2-0 lead going into the second period. The Wings continued to struggle offensively in the second quarter, but kept their defense tight, allowing just one goal close to halftime when Luan Oliveira would find the net to make it a 4-0 Wave lead at the half.

The third quarter was a much better showing for the Wings as they produced back to back goals to tie up the game. The first came from Wichita's captain, Freddy Moojen, who put the Wings on the board with a two-pointer to cut Milwaukee's lead, 4-2. Andrew Hoxie added to the Wings' action with a goal to tie the game up at four apiece. Shortly after, Luan Oliveira would score his second goal of the night to put the Wave back in the lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Miguel Ferrer came up big for the Wings a few minutes into the quarter by scoring his first of the night that would once again tie the game up at six all. Milwaukee defender, Jonathan Greenfield, would hit a critical three-point goal to give the Wave 9-6 lead late in the fourth quarter. With two minutes left, Wichita would play the sixth attacker which led to Israel Sesay's first goal of his professional indoor career with a three-point goal on an empty net that would seal a 12-6 victory for the Wave.

The Wings will continue on the road when they play the Missouri Comets Sunday, January 6, kick-off at 3:10 p.m. (CST) in the Independence Events Center.
